During the NBA playoff contest, an ABC TV announcer shared a stunning take from the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback.
The NFL star Patrick and his wife Brittany appeared courtside at the American Airlines Center for the second-round series game on Saturday afternoon.
The Texas natives and high-school sweethearts are Mavericks fans.
During a sequence, ABC play-by-play Dave Pasch revealed that he and colleague and analyst Hubie Brown received a message from Mahomes.
“Pat, unsolicited, just turned to Hubie and I and said Lu Dort could play in the NFL,” Pasch said, referring to Thunder star Luguentz Dort.
“I don’t know if he was kidding or serious, but he said he could play linebacker, or running back.”
Brown replied to Pasch’s note, saying, “Very nice compliment.”
Mahomes’ remark came as the sports world has recently debated whether NBA players can play in the NFL.
Former NBA player Austin Rivers started the debate during The Pat McAfee Show when he said, “I can take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL. You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA.”
Still, the three-time NFL MVP Mahomes seemed to give his kudos to Dort and his athletic and physical play.
The latter ability was on display, quite literally, as Dort picked up six personal fouls in the game which led to being fouled out late in the fourth quarter.
The Mavericks went on to win and take a 2-1 series lead.
Dallas stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving both scored 22 points.
Thunder star and 2023 MVP finalist Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 31 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Oklahoma City has now lost two straight games after starting 5-0 in the playoffs.
They’ll face the Mavericks in Game 4 on Monday night in Dallas.
Mahomes and his wife Brittany were lucky charms for the Mavericks.
Both can make another appearance to support the NBA team next week.
