Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal pays tribute to his idol Lionel Messi on X (previously Twitter).
The 16-year-old forward, who is enjoying his breakthrough season with the Catalan club, shared two photos. The first photo shows a youthful Yamal smiling alongside Messi, while the second shows the Blaugrana man wearing Argentina’s 36-year-old great’s uniform.
He wrote in the caption, accompanied with a blue heart:
“Idolo!”
Yamal has impressed during his short career so far, which has even led to several drawing comparisons between the youngster and Messi. However, the teenager said in a recent interview (via Mundo Deportivo):
“That’s a comparison I leave to the others, but there will never be another player like Leo Messi.”
The captain of Argentina had a stellar career at Barcelona, making 778 games across all competitions and contributing 303 assists to his tally of 672 goals. During his tenure at Camp Nou, he won the UEFA Champions League three times and La Liga ten times.
Aside from all of that, Messi has won the Ballon d’Or eight times and captained Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Throughout the competition, he assisted on three goals and scored seven goals.
Yamal is still in the early stages of what appears to be a successful career. He has made 39 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.
After missing out on the Argentina squad, Lionel Messi was seen training at Inter Miami.
Lionel Messi
Following his withdrawal from the Argentina squad during the current international break, Lionel Messi has been seen working out with Inter Miami. The Argentina national team declared that Messi’s injury will keep him out of the friendlies against Costa Rica on March 26 and El Salvador on March 22.
The good news for Herons’ supporters is that they can see the former Barcelona player walking up and down during practice. Journalist Franco Panizo used his X account to post videos of Messi while reporting on the issue.
When the star will play again for Inter Miami is still up in the air. After sustaining the injury in a previous 3-1 victory against Nashville on March 13, he was unable to participate in the team’s most recent victory over DC United on March 16.
Considering that Messi has already made an impact on the Florida team this season with five goals and two assists in five games, his return will be essential. The Herons are now tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with Columbus, despite Columbus having played one fewer game.
